About
The 17th Century saw large standing armies in action across Europe, in numbers that have previously been undreamt off. The cavalry of the period was mostly of a heavy variety such as big horses that could barge other enemy cavalry and intimidate infantry whilst also having the ability to carry and protect their determined rider. The cavalryman’s offensive arms started with a least a pistol, sword or pole axe for close quarter fighter. Cavalry were usually formed in squadrons, regiments and brigades.
