Battlefield control may occasionally be given to an Overseer - a ranking officer within the Clade, chosen by lot on the eve of attle to be present in his own flesh. By gaining a personal experience of the combat the Overseer enhances his own performance and that of Cyphers under his command in subsequent battles.
