In the beginning he stole a Green Lantern ring and since he had scientific knowledge, he did an experiment in which he made the green ring Red, being the first Red Lantern. Seeing this incredible result, Atrocitus cloned that ring and recruited all the Red Lanterns, who, driven by the Emotional feeling of Hate.
